General Information
PT-141, also known as Bremelanotide, is a medication used to treat sexual dysfunction, including hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. It works by activating melanocortin receptors which are thought to affect sexual arousal.
PT-141 works by stimulating melanocortin receptors in the brain, which play a role in sexual arousal and desire. Unlike some other treatments for sexual dysfunction, PT-141 does not act directly on the vascular system.
The primary benefits of PT-141 are increased sexual desire and arousal. It can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing HSDD.
Usage and Administration
PT-141 is administered via a subcutaneous injection, usually into the abdominal area or thigh. It is typically used on an as-needed basis, approximately 45 minutes before anticipated sexual activity.
PT-141 should be used no more than once in a 24-hour period and no more than eight times per month. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
It is important to discuss all medications you are currently taking with your healthcare provider before starting PT-141. Some medications may interact with PT-141, potentially causing adverse effects.
Safety and Side Effects
Common side effects of PT-141 include nausea, flushing, headache, and reactions at the injection site. If you experience severe side effects or allergic reactions, seek medical attention immediately.
PT-141 may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions or those taking specific medications. It is crucial to have a thorough medical evaluation and discussion with your healthcare provider before starting PT-141.
